I’d been to Argentina before with ‘The Power of Sports’, and when I received the invitation to go to Nepal, it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up!
How satisfied were you with the support before departure?
Communication with Ruben and Roel went very smoothly. Despite the time difference, we were in touch almost every day and were well prepared for our trip, which meant I was able to set off for Nepal with very few worries.

My time in Nepal with the other volunteers from the pilot group flew by. I had an absolutely brilliant time and discovered a country that is culturally very different from what I was used to. The support from the local team, led by Niraj, is brilliant, and they’re always there for you. What’s more, everyone is really friendly, kind and always up for a laugh. Nepal is a truly special country where I felt very much at home from the very first moment. Everyone is accepted and people are very curious about you. I felt this during the projects too, whether at schools, sports clubs or in the local communities. You get so much energy from them, which in turn allows you to give a lot of energy back. The children aren’t very familiar with sports yet, so there’s a lot you can teach them. I also got to see other parts of Nepal. For example, I visited Chitwan National Park, and the whole group went on a four-day trek through the Himalayas. It was truly unforgettable.
What advice would you give to those who come after you?
Let yourself be swept up in Nepalese culture and interact with the locals as much as possible to make your experience as wonderful as it can be!
